In my opinion, it is about.


being consistent, being fair and being in control without being an attention whore who seeks to constantly be the show. Reasonable fans realize that sometimes mistakes are made, calls are missed, etc.. In my opinion, it is not as much a case of fixing it as improving it. As the game has gotten faster and the players exponentially more athletic it has become a more difficult game to officiate and improvement demands the job be a more full time focus from a training and evaluation standpoint with more transparency to the evaluation phase. The NBA has obviously struggled with some older officials retiring and trying to mesh the new officials with the players but, they have experimented with some interesting approaches to sharing evaluation info. I do not personally think failures of officials are generally attributable to bias but, more often than not, being out of position to observe the action taking place.
