You can find sitters but it takes a lot of effort. Place an add on line at


indeed etc.. I run a social services nonprofit in MD and we provide services to 165 developmentally disabled adults. Many of our staff work 2nd jobs sitting elderly. you can hire someone decent in the $13 range but be sure to do the following:

Background checks
Drug tests
Don’t let them near any financial entry points like credit cards checks or bank accounts
There are a lot of really fine individuals providing care
You will have to withhold for taxes and fica and provide a w-2
But it’s a lot less than what you are paying
You may want to ask for a cna cettfication (certified nursing assistant)
They can check blood pressure, diabetes monitoring, personal care

It’s not for everyone but if you manage it, it can really cut costs
