But if the $$$ stays close, they have no reason to leave

Texas and OU already make a ton of money on third tier rights. Their revenue is competitive with the SEC and Big Ten schools now. Obviously, that could change but it's not a certainty that it will. As long as Texas and OU can compete at the bank, they will be better off sticking with the Big 12 where they can rule the roost and keep extending their membership in short increments when the GOR are about to expire.

Only if the Big Ten makes a play for both would they move for more or less even money. Neither is crazy about the SEC and Texas, in particular, does not want to have to travel to the west coast for Pac 12 games. They see how problematic it is for WVU to travel a similar distance in their own conference.

At some point, when the television money bubble bursts, I wonder if conferences won't gravitate back to the 8-10 member model. Sure, you can get some of the same benefits with 16-20 members. But there is something to be said for playing every member in the football regular season and being able to play an 18-game, round robin schedule in basketball. If geographic sensibility is restored, I think it's much better to have a smaller conference with a loose affiliation for scheduling, etc., with another more distant conference, much like the Big Ten and Pac 10 used to have.
