So who are our resident coffee gurus? Edge, MK?

What could be a source of inconsistency in the quality/flavor of my morning cup? I use the same machine (a medium grade automatic drip machine), same coffee, same water, same amounts, same everything...I make it exactly the same every time.

Some days, it's pretty awesome. Rich flavor, just right. About once every week or so, it seems to come out flavorless and bitter. I can't for the life of me figure out what is causing the inconsistent results. Any ideas?
