What A&M wants may not matter
If ESPN again refuses to allow texas to go to a non-Disney company (B1G and PAC), and the Big 12 dies, their only options are the ACC and the SEC. And barring you all jumping right past the 16 team mark to either 18 or 20, that only leaves the SEC. The Aggies can kick and scream and complain until they're blue in the face about it, but there wouldn't be anything they could about it. Even the fabled "gentlemen's agreement" wouldn't save them, as all the other in-state non-SEC schools are tied to a long-term ACC grant of rights. UGA doesn't have to worry about keeping GaTech out until 2030-something, and the same goes for Florida and FSU/Miami, UK and Louisville, or SCar and Clemson.
