My guess is he had no clue if JJ was going to be available from play to play so when he had a chance he took it. He didn’t run a QB sneak on 4th and short because wasn’t sure if he would get up from pounding he would take diving into the middle of the line leaving him without a real option at QB to go the rest of the way. Not sure how this isn’t obvious now that we know what all the facts that the coaches were dealing with at the time.
