I don't disagree that VT could be attractive to the Big Ten

because of the academics. Even athletically VT could be attractive to the Big Ten. However, it doesn't mean that Big Ten fans or even Hokie fans would embrace the new conference foe(s). For example, would Hokie fans view Indiana, NW, Illinois, UMD, Rutgers, and Minnesota in the same light as BC, Syracuse, Duke, and Wake? Would Big Ten fans be more excited to see their teams play against VT than Kansas, Oklahoma, or Texas?

Also, it may depend on whether the Big Ten wants 1 or 2 VA schools to join the conference. I could see a scenario where the Big Ten would rather add UVA, Duke, and UNC over a combination that includes VT. It wouldn't surprise me if VT found itself in a similar position as Mizzou when it comes to being a member in the Big Ten.
