I tend to agree with your assessment


And I recognize many of the flaws listed below regarding size/speed. But the guy is a ballplayer. It amazes me when a player like this can fall so far. There were 256 picks in the draft, and there have been at least 300 UDFAs signed, so that seems to suggest that a lot of folks consider him to not be in the top 500 of eligible football players. Obviously position needs are always a factor, but you'd think there would be a "best player available" scenario with someone.

It reminds me a bit of Jason White, the 2003 Heisman winner from OU. He said so many records in his college career. He had two ACL surgeries which clearly hurt. Weeks after most UDFAs had signed, he finally got a *tryout* with the Titans for the possibility of a UDFA contract.

I don't know. I get that some players have downsides, but given the number of draftees/signees, you'd think some guys like Blanding and White would get picked up sooner.
