Men
1) We came within 1 missed jump of going 1-2-4-6 in the pole vault. Unfortunately the ND vaulter made his last attempt at 18-4 and went on to win. Nonetheless, we picked up all of the projected points plus .5 (there was a tie for 6th) for 21.5 points while UVa got their projected 4.
2) We got a bump of 4 points in the steeplechase while UVa got an extra point in that event.
3) UVa was +1 in the shot put and -1 in the long jump.
4) We advanced 1 to the final in the 100 and 3 in the 800 while UVa didn't advance any runners to the finals in yesterday's events.
5) Updated projected score: VT-84.5, UVa-75. Still a long way to go but we are in good shape.

Women
1) The big event was the long jump. Our sophomore, Bajnok, won the event so we went +9 in the event. This was big since UVa went 2-3. UVa picked up 7 extra points in the event which would have been 11 extra points without Bajnok's performance. We finished +9 for the event.
2) We were +1 in the steeplechase while UVa went -4 in the shot put.
3) We had a big disappointment in the 400 where our expected 5th place finisher failed to qualify for the finals (-4).
4) We qualified 2 runners for the finals in the 800 while UVa moved 2 runners in the 100 hurdles and one in the 400. None of the UVa runners had times that would result in a lot of points.
5) Updated projected score: VT-97, UVa-72. It would be a major disappointment for the women to finish behind UVa. We might virtually clinch against them before the running events begin this evening since we are already guaranteed at least 6 points in the 800 (there will still be some theoretic points for UVa in the relays but it is highly doubtful they could score more than 2-4 additional points; they are weak in the 2 relays). We may have things in hand at the conclusion of the triple jump which should be over by 5pm. It is going to happen and the Commonwealth Clash is ours again.
