I don't see this "crisis mode" that others keep talking about
Holston was actually a fairly highly recruited RB. Depending on the source, he was a high-3 or low-4 star guy. He reportedly had offers from Florida, South Carolina, NC State, UNC, among others. It took him a while to adjust to a new system, but he showed some flashes late in the year.
McClease is a decent back. No, he's not going to end up on an NFL roster, but he's a serviceable ACC-level back. Ideally, McClease is our backup RB.
Terius Wheatley has great bloodlines. He's got good speed and, while raw, the tools are potentially there.
Steven Peoples isn't going to wow anyone, but he's a good blue collar back. Decent power. Ideally we're able to use him more in a FB role when the situation allows.
Cole Beck isn't going to play next year, but he's got elite level speed at the least.
And then there's Caleb Steward. Check out the tape of Steward as a SR and you'll see a RB that has begun to come into his own. Don't be surprised if we got a steal here (by the way, he exceeds Ford in every single way in measurables.... bigger, faster, stronger, quicker).
Yes, getting Ford or another highly recruited back would have been nice. But I certainly don't see a DT-like crisis at the position either. Worst case, we have a stable of a few average backs until we recruit someone better. But I think we have two or three guys who have a decent or better chance of being above average (or better) backs.
