The I wish I went to Alabama instead of VT crowd is noisy but small

And lack an understanding of how the program is positioned in the college football world or are in denial about what’s possible with it. In the current college football environment, VT is a program that should make a serious bid for the playoffs every 4-5 years with solid but not great seasons in between. I always go back to one of the marquee reasons Whit had for hiring CJF: player development. Translation: there’s no expectation that blue chip players are going to come easy, there will be more misses than gets, so developing the 3* kids so that 2 or 3 years in they’ll be effective and leverage the hell out of the handful of blue chip players you do get to fill the gaps. The long term strategy is to have that big year under those conditions and use it as a recruiting springboard to bring in more blue chip players thus cutting the 4-5 year cycle time to 3-4. This is the reality of VT football and boo Hooing it is pretty pointless.
