In addition to Paige and Renee issues being unresolved, so was Oleg being left in prison.

I liked the ending however.

It showed Elizabeth's devotion to the cause nearly made her unable to make a moral decision. And she was dependent on her husband who became reflective enough to think for himself, to make the biggest life decisions that needed to be made on the fly.

The big issue in the end, was whether the two would be together. Their marriage was arranged by the Soviet authorities, and they went through many problems due to their work, even after they decided to get married officially. The line at the end by Elizabeth "maybe we would have met. On a bus." was a realization of after all they've been through, that she was glad they were together. But of course, they ended up forfeiting seeing their children, maybe forever.

It also shows the sadness of innocent people being hurt (Oleg, maybe the most noble, consistent and likable character) ends up being the one who pays the price. And also Stan, who is compromised in numerous ways, compromises himself again in the end and lets Philip, Elizabeth, and Paige off the hook. He is stuck with a woman who might be a spy, and now is in a work situation where he now knows more about--and is responsible for--damaging a case his agency is trying solve. And he has to remain silent now. All that being said about Stan, he is in part doing it for Henry, a casualty of all of this.

There is endless ways that this could have ended, but they went with the human side of things. I would have loved to have seen more of the history being woven in at the end, such as, the fall of the Eastern Bloc in 1989. But I'm fine with the way they chose to do it, and fine with some things being left unresolved. It continues the intrigue.
