Yep. I had an affordable individual plan
before ACA. It was not quite, but close to a catastrophic type plan. Being self employed I took the risk. I could afford annual checkups, the occasional sinus infection and even (with some belt tightening) a large deductible on things like broken legs, appendicitis, etc. I needed protection from costs for heart attack, cancer, etc.
Best I can tell that type of plan now isn't available now. Plans are almost required to treat everybody the same and cover a whole list of things - regardless of one's needs/wants.
I wasn't able to keep my plan - but I did get to cover my kids until age 26 and there is some type of pre-existing condition coverage.
If we would just stop the "we have to pass this before we see what's in it" AND the "we have to repeal it in it's entirety" attitudes we'd be a lot better off.
