I've had the same thing happen too...


and I believe your first statement sums it up.... efficiency and logistics. Their conveyance system might be set-up perfectly to handle that size box exclusively. Throwing in a new size or type of shipping container might increase processing time and cost more for unique packaging.

But I agree, it seems very wasteful and an envelope is a better solution IMO.
