Feasibility of College Hockey in the ACC

In the interest of noodling ideas as well as looking at all of the tremendous excitement around here about the Washington Capitals and the Stanley Cup. Where the hell did all of these CAPS fans come from? I'm deaf from C-A-P-S. Caps! Caps! Caps! They're taking over Richmond. TIC. Congratulations to them!

Watching this and just thinking, last summer the NHL and the NHL Players Associations announced a proactive project to push Hockey at the College level. They have funded feasibility studies at Illinois and Oakland (Detroit) for Division 1 Ice Hockey. They have supposedly funded more.

I was thinking we have the Panthers in Miami, the Penguins in Pittsburgh, the Hurricane in Raleigh, the Capitals in Washington, and three NHL teams in New York (Sabres, Islanders, and Rangers) along with the Bruins in Boston. These are all ACC footprint.

The NHL seems to want to seed this close to one of their franchises geographically. The ACC has some choices. Boston College and Notre Dame already have teams. They are both in other leagues, and the ACC would have to build itself up before they would look, but there may be potential.

I've always thought the ACC should focus on growing lacrosse. But hey if the NHL is helping with funding, why not?
