I think RB coach is a position where the coach contributes elsewhere too.
Billy Hite was RB coach, and always had some other title, like Asst Head Coach.
Likewise, Shane Beamer was RB coach and Asst Head Coach. I recall when he was hired, there was discussion that his primary contribution would be as a recruiter, and RB coach would be one of the "easier" positions to coach without prior experience.
You may recall that Justin Hamilton was a true Hokie as a player, and contributed wherever the coaches needed to put him. Started out as RB, switched to DB when he was needed on defense. Switched back to RB when we had some RB injuries, then back to DB. He may have had a great VT career if he had started/stayed at DB his whole career.
