The Athletic might want to support their new writers...


They might want to do that to continue to recruit good talent. If they don't, it could be hard to recruit new talent. Also, I bet they liked having a new writer bring readers with him through Twitter. I know I use Twitter to know when my favorite writers posts a new story.
