Based on recent NCAA Olympic sport championships


Women's lacrosse, men's soccer, or women's soccer have the best chance.

This season JMU beat BC for the WLAX Championship. Northwestern came out of nowhere and won 7 national championships between 2005-2012. If JMU can do it, why not Virginia Tech?

Soccer has its powerhouse programs but those programs aren't as dominant as they used to be. FSU and Penn State have recent women's soccer titles. Akron, Wake Forest, and UC Santa Barbara have won men's soccer titles. If either the men's or women's teams can get hot at the right time (Late October - early December) and get some luck (every championship team gets a lucky break on their way to winning it all even Alabama in football), they have a chance to be Tech's first national championship team.

Wrestling and Track and Field have a few road blocks in our way (Penn State's dominance of wrestling and the top tier of the SEC and Pac-12 in T&F).

I think if Tech can hold on to John Sung and he elevates the program each season that he has the best chance to bring us our first NCAA team championship. I say it comes between 2020-2022. ;)
