My rule of thumb is buy the company, not the trends.


If a company makes products that the majority of society uses every day without even thinking about it..they are probably a good buy. Oil stocks ebb and flow with the price of commodities, but a lot of them pay great dividends and will never go out of business while people are driving cars and using plastics. Computer parts and software, big national airlines, big pharma etc.
