Couple of news points

Bragg evacuated before the storm so their response may not be as full as one might expect. LeJeune did not evacuate. However, those off-base were allowed to leave ahead of storm if their command structure agreed.

I read yesterday that the Marine base is providing requested services from neighboring localities. They are poised to help as needed. For example, my son, his wife, and their newborn were moved out of the newborn suite that they had occupied since Wednesday because the Marines had rescued a mess of pregnant women who needed immediate OB services.

Fortunately, one of their friends offered them the use of his base house, one of the few that had electricity. His friend had evacuated his family and his command ordered that he stay at his office for the foreseeable future.

My son was able to drive off base yesterday and managed to find a way to his Hubert/Swansboro home. Despite the 34+" of rain that the Swansboro area took (highest amount of any location in the storm so far), their house was mostly dry inside, just one leak over their FROG bathroom. The house also had some minor tree damage from a neighbor's limb and from a small pine that is resting against the side of the house.

The base, itself, stayed high and "dry" for the most part. The New River mostly behaved itself. However, there is substantial damage to base housing areas. My son said he'd send some pictures as he got out and around today.
