Bullet point thoughts on today's game...

1. College football in general is a bunch of 18 to 21 year-olds filled with weekly upsets and close games that shouldn't be close. It's what makes it a great entertaining sport, but really sucks when we're on the end of it.

2. JJ is a decent quarterback, but has very limited upside. He's not a great pocket passer, he's way too slow to be a dual threat, and he doesn't always see the receivers. He's not going to be a QB for a top 10 team, and in my observation is the least skilled QB we've had at VT in a very long time. I hope he fully heals in time, but I'm excited to see what the other QB's can do.

3. The team had a horrible game, especially the defense. No one was really sure how good or bad we were considering we haven't played a good team yet.

4. We are young and it really showed, from tackling to assignments to mental lapses. Remember Motuapuaka. He looked clueless his two years but was actually a solid player by the time he was a senior. I am confident Bud will get things fixed. Experience in college football is very important

5. We could win 8 games this year, or we could lose 8. It's going to be fun to see what team shows up each week, and how we improve. I am hoping we get better and keep our bowl streak alive.

6. Playing ODU always seemed like a bad idea, especially away. Very limited upside and we gave the opponent a once-in-a-lifetime chance to do something miraculous. That's a recipe for disaster, especially for in-state schools, as these kids who weren't good enough to play for teams like VT have everything to prove.

7. JMU and ODU have accomplished something that UVA hasn't been able to do in the past decade. That is crazy. You have to give some credit to ODU for making a lot of really great plays. We played horribly, but ODU also played incredibly well.

8. I'll still watch and support the Hokies. Success and failure comes in waves, so it does make the successes more sweeter feeling the disappointment of failure.
