I think Fuente deserves the benefit of the doubt here...


I think he selected JJ as the starter last year because he knew we'd have a great defense and the best way to win with a good defense is to take care of the ball and avoid giving the opponent a short field.

Fuente had many teams at Memphis that didn't have good defenses and he opened up the offense in order to generate more points -- knowing the defense wouldn't hold up.

We were a little more opened up with Jerod Evans and our skill position players a couple of years ago. He's adjusting based upon the makeup of the team.

Apparently, Willis didn't do enough in the offseason to unseat JJ as the starter. He's going to get his chance and he will undoubtedly put up bigger numbers. Time will tell if uptick in offensive production will outweigh the inevitable uptick in turnovers as well.

I expect the offense will be more exciting and more fun to watch.
