I suspect they assume that the parent has enough money or assets


to cover any outstanding debt associated with the lessee. It wouldn't surprise me if most places run a credit check on the guarantor even if they claim they don't run one. Besides, if a place does lie about running a credit check on the guarantor, then it is unlikely that most guarantors will take the time to come up with enough evidence to prove the placed lied to them. Even if the guarantor finds the proof, then I am not sure what the guarantor can do to "punish" the place of business for lying to him/her.
