Talk of ODU home/away misses the forest for the trees.

As an organizational psychologist, I'm actually fascinated by the team's situation. It'll be really, really interesting to see how the team responds to the loss. It'll also be interesting to see what the house cleaning Coach Fuente has been doing does to improve program culture.

He's molding and shaping the program into what he believes is a winner. I'm very confident in what he's doing. Our roster has more talented athletes than it did 1-2 years ago. Rome wasn't built in a day and I think he has us on the right track. Unfortunately, change is often a bit painful and improvement rarely happens in a linear manner. It'll be a bit of 2-steps forward, 1-step back -- with all the early departures to the NFL over the past few seasons (Evans, Ford, Hodges, Edmunds, Edmunds, Settle), the dismissals (Reynolds, Hill, Goode), and the injury to our starting QB, it may feel a bit more like 1-step forward, 2-steps back.

Why fret over near-term results? Why not watch the forest grow rather than lament the demise of a sapling? Maybe I've just gotten old and have far too many other priorities in my life (kids, teaching, consulting) -- but I'm actually REALLY intrigued by how this team responds, how the coaches lead, and what happens next. It should be fun to watch.
