Our problem is that Beamer spoiled us in the late nineties and captured lightning for a couple of years with Vick. After that, everything else just came up short, even with all the ACC championship titles and BCS bowls.

The only way Tech can fulfill it's promise to the fans and guarantee greatness is to become an unapologetic unethical program like the mighty powers we see year in and year out. I think every single program (even the pathetic ones) bend rules and cheat at the P5 level. But the great ones cheat with style and fluidity. Much like magicians, their slight of hand when it comes to recruiting the best, controlling the refs and breaking NCAA rules goes unseen by most of us.

Another way to put it. Football is a religion to the fans, university administration, players and coaches at Bama, Auburn, UF, LSU, UGa, FSU, Clemson, OSU, PSU, UM, ND, Texas, OU and USC (Miami is an asterisk because they have no fans). Nebraska, Oregon, South Carolina, Tennessee and aTm are also asterisks as their programs are mediocre but you can't help to feel that they'll hit the mark someday in our lifetimes. Football is a religion to the fans only (not the university, coaches and players) at VT, WVU, Wisconsin, MSU, Iowa, Ok State, K State, BYU and ASU.
