Even if Mitchell is here all 4 years, I would hate to see VT put itself

in the position where fans might be saying "I really wish Mitchell was still on the team at TE" the year after he used up his last year of eligibility as a SR. Since most teams have at least 4 TEs on their roster, then the ideal situation is probably to have only 1 TE per class. VT will have that next year which could be a good year to redshirt Gallo (FR) and Mitchell (SO). In theory, Gallo and Mitchell could play the role as third TE in 8 regular season games with r-SO Cole Blaker (assuming he is still on the roster) filling in that role for the last 4 regular season games , CCG (if necessary), and the bowl game. The other scenario is that 2 of Mitchell's games could be save for the CCG and bowl game and Blaker picking up 2 extra regular season games. Then in 2020 the TE situation could look like this (assuming no current player transfers or leaves the program).

Blaker r-JR
DeIuliis r-JR
Mitchell r-SO
Gallo r-FR
+ any 2020 targets that sign FR (assume they will redshirt)

For the 2021 season, VT could have 5 TEs in the mix; 2 r-SR, 1 r-JR, 1 r-SO, and 1 r-FR.
