I understand that players want to play and whether a player

plays as a true FR or redshirts as a FR, the player still has 4 years to play. If a player, as a true FR, ends up playing only on the kickoff team and burns his redshirt in the process, then I could see where a player, as a JR or SR, may have regrets about how his FR year was handled especially if he is not going to graduate in 4 years and unlikely to play professional football after college. The player may look back on the FR year as a "waste" because the player may have only been involved in 30-40 kickoffs for the entire year instead of potentially hundreds of plays depending on how many different units the player was on.
