ACC Cross-Country Championships this weekend
There are 2 points at stake in the Commonwealth Clash this weekend when the men's and women's cross country teams race in the ACC Championships at Boston College. These were 2 points that we won last year but that will not be the case this year. Our men's team graduated 4 out of the top 5 runners and we are young with no seniors in the lineup. UVa has a strong team that has a shot at winning the whole thing. We need Syracuse to keep them from doing that since total ACC Championships are the tiebreaker for the Clash.
Our women's team bested UVa in a recent meet at Penn State but the gap was small. We only graduated one top runner from last year but we somehow (I have no information on why) we lost a top performer, Laurie Barton, who still had 2 years of eligibility. She was also a solid contributor to the track team. The women's race is crucial for us with regards to the Clash. Neither of our teams will contend for the top 3; unlike last year when the men finished 2nd and the women 3rd.
We are currently ahead of last year's pace due to our success in soccer (last year our men lost and the women did not play; this year we won the women's game and tied the men's game). A win in the women's race and a loss in the men's race will put us at last year's pace. To further maintain that pace the Volleyball team will have to win at UVa and, most importantly, we need to win at football. Go Hokies!
