Last night's refs didn't deserve the NEC/MEAC Challenge, let alone ACC/B1G

Disclaimer 1: We sucked last night, and we should have won by playing just slightly better.

Disclaimer 2: I'm not claiming the refs "had it out for us," just that they were grossly incompetent.

Look, I fully understand that these referees are people, and they make mistakes just like any of us. Also, these guys are probably doing a far better job than I personally could do. However, there is no excuse for the pathetic errors made by simply not knowing how to enforce certain rules that don't even require last-second, spur-of-the-moment decisions.

Example 1: The backcourt violation. They literally gave us less than five seconds to get the ball across half court. The clock was at :23 for the dead ball, and the whistle blew at :19 (clock stopped at :18). This is absolute incompetence.

Example 2: We should have had 2.6 seconds left before the half, with the ball under the hoop. Instead, we were given 0.9 seconds. We've already seen several plays this year where we have scored in less than 2 seconds from under the basket, but under 1 second makes it nearly impossible. Again, no excuse for such incompetence.

There were plenty of other errors made during the flow of the game (the "held ball" near the end, where KJ was obviously fouled – ref needs to man up and make a call there, rather than copping out and calling a held ball), but those are generally more forgivable. On the other hand, the errors where the refs don't even know the rules, or refuse to apply them correctly, are absolutely inexcusable. These guys get paid $3800 a night for this! I can't imagine getting paid that much in one night to screw up my job so badly.
