Interesting perspective. My dad's was a little different.

He was a Seabee station in Hawaii and Alaska during the war.

In spring 1976 we went to Hawaii (during my Spring Break). First morning we had breakfast at a restaurant next to our hotel on Waikiki Beach. There were Japanese at the next table. My dad was angry. He said "I never thought I'd be sitting in Hawaii next to a blankety blank blankety blank" in Hawaii eating breakfast.

This was only 35 years after the bombing ( as opposed to the 77 today).
