the wording of the story I read talked of hiring scientists at and hastening growth of the research institute...in that case, the university is not really "saving" $50 million somewhere that could be "shifted" elsewhere

and I'm pretty sure there is zero chance it helps wrestling...athletics is self-funding and required to be pretty much walled-off from the rest of the university, I believe

the only way to be sure you're helping wrestling is to give to SERTC or give to VT Wrestling in some very specific way where the shift you describe above can't be done away from wrestling
