Fiction...

Every few months someone on some semi-professional website trots out this stuff and it is no more true now than it was the first time.

A bit of reality...

Texas is the Big-12, no one else, just Texas. Not even Oklahoma, just Texas.

Texas has no desire to leave the Big-12 because they are the Big-12. They do what they want, make the money they want and they control the recruiting in their region, which extends beyond Texas.

Texas is rich, This article even gets that wrong. The Big-12 paid out 36 million last paycheck, but that is not the total pay out. The Big-12, unlike the ACC has real Tier-3 rights and for all of the schools in the Big-12 these run from a paltry 3 million at Iowa State, to 9 million for WVU to an estimated 20 million for Texas. Then you add the 15 million on top of what Texas gets and that is 36+20+15=71 million. If Texas joins the Big or the ACC they would have to write off that 20+15 or HALF of what they get. Not happening and what is more is that need not happen.

Texas gains NOTHING from moving to another conference. The ACC would be a huge step back for them and the Big would try to do to Texas, what they have successfully done to Nebraska and Penn State. Texas knows that and so does Notre Dame, which is why they have repeatedly told the Big, no thank you.

Texas is where it is going to be long after 2023 comes and goes.

Oklahoma, well as much as they are the BMOC in the football column, they are more like Nebraska than Texas if they went to the Big and they would be worse off in the ACC because the ACC is not all that serious about football and Oklahoma is all about football and the Big-12 is all about football in spite of their basketball success. This was why FSU, GT and Clemson gave a lot of thought to joining the Big-12 5 years ago.

As for travel budgets. How would these people know it is a hardship for WVU? WVU was traveling almost as much in the Old Big East and was bring in only 6 to 9 million total dollars. Now they bring in roughly 45 million. They few added checks they write for travel are pennies when they are offset by 500% increase in payout.

Simply a stupid article, written by guys guessing and bored.
