The problem is the precedent they set


Ultimately the cancellation didn't make any difference in either school's season. But if a school can cancel a game, and more importantly, not honor the contractual terms if they cancel, what prevents any school from backing out from a game they don't want to play.

I think it would be funny next fall if ECU called the Carolina papers and said, "yeah, gotta drop out of the trip to ECU this weekend, out team buses are broken, can't make it." "well we've got buses, we can come get you" "no, no, we have to be able to use out team buses, not able to make the trip"
