Next Year

I had some time to kill so I was looking at next year. I used Ourlads as a basis for this review. They have two-deep depth charts for each team and also show a projected draft status for each senior. There draft status has five levels: Rounds 1-2, Rounds 3-4, Rounds 5-6, Round 7/Priority free agent add Camp Free Agent (not likely to stick). Here is what our opponents lose:

As a point of reference, we lose 5 starters (3 OL, RW and Peoples), 1 second string (Vinnie); one player (Nijman) with a shot at being drafted (Round 7/FA) and one (RW) who should get a FA contract.

1) Virginia loses 9 from their 2-deep including 7 starters;5 of which may be drafted. They lose both their top RB and WR. The numbers do not include Bryce Hall who many expect to leave early. If he leaves they will only return one starter to the secondary. We know had badly that can go.
2) Duke loses 10 from their 2-deep including 7 starters; 3 of which may be drafted. They lose all 3 starting WRs and their two top TEs. There is also speculation that Daniel Jones (QB) leaves early.
3) Pitt loses 14 from their 2-deep including 12 starters; 5 of which may be drafted and another 5 who are projected as FA. The losses include both stud RBs (both will be drafted) and 4 OLs. They lose a ton of talent.
4) Miami loses 13 from their 2-deep including 6 starters; 2 are projected in Rounds 1/2, 2 more in 3/4 plus 3 more who may be drafted.
5) UNC loses 7 from their 2-deep including 4 starters; only 1 of which may be drafted.
6) GT loses 13 from their 2-deep including 12 starters; none of which will even get FA contracts. Their loses include all of the front-3 plus 4 others on D.
7) BC loses 15 from their 2-deep including 11 starters; 1 is projected in Rounds 1/2, three in 3/4, two in 5/6 and three more in 7/FA. They lose a lot of quantity and quality.
8) Wake loses 11 from their 2-deep, all starters. Two may be drafted. Their biggest losses are 3 of 4 DL plus 3 other on D.
9) Notre Dame loses 14 from their 2-deep including 11 starters. They should have 6 players drafted.
10) ODU loses 12 from their 2-deep including 11 starters. They have 2 players who should be drafted plus 2 more who may be drafted. They lose their 3 top WRs (all have draft potential).
11) ECU loses 9 from their 2-deep including 6 starters; one of which may be drafted.

My ranking of toughest games to easiest games:
1) ND has tons of talent to fill in their gaps.
2) Miami also has tons of talent but they are losing some top quality guys.
3-tie) UNC (stop laughing) loses about as much as we do. If you look at how close they were in a number of games (us, OT losses to Syracuse and State, 7 point losses to Duke and Cal, 10 point losses to UVa and BC) they were not that far from being decent.
3-tie) Virginia only because of their QB.
5) Pitt only because we always struggle with them.
6-tie) Duke but less than usual due to skill position losses.
6-tie) Wake is a little trouble due to their O; we should score 40 on them.
6-tie) BC is only this high because of Dillon; they lose a lot of talent.
9) GT loses most of their D and does not have the right type of offensive players.
10) ECU - despite what they think, we would have crushed them in a make-up game.
11) ODU loses significant talent; we are going to score 60 on them.
12) Furman - enough said.

If we can't win at least 8, the program is in trouble. I would expect to go 9-3 and battle Miami for the Coastal.
