This is not the same Houston. The Houston that was nearly invited had Tom Herman at the helm and he is now at Texas. This iteration of Houston is much different.

Another thing to consider, is that many schools have a reputation of making the case that can play at a higher level because they get up for the one serious game of the year in their bowl. Service academies do not have to slog through a P5 schedule and neither does Houston. Such schools tend to play one or two P5s through their schedule and rarely do they win.
