!#$#!@%$@ Holiday news...

So.... I'm not happy but trying to behave appropriately....

So it turns out, our daughter who has been working hard to ace the pre-nursing curriculum in order to get into the UF nursing program , getting almost straight As and pushing herself in the classroom, has also been motivated for other reasons. She has been dating a guy for about 8-9 months now who is about to graduate from UF. He is in ROTC program , an officer candidate, etc.

Well, over Christmas, he proposed to her. ( He didn't approach my husband nor myself first BTW) and gave her a family heirloom vintage engagement ring that had belonged to one of his (now deceased) grandmothers who was a life-long military spouse. And Faith didn't hesitate to say YES....

They want to get married in the fall of 2019.

I can go on and on about why we are not happy with the timing of this - she's way too young, we want her to finish her education before she marries, etc etc...
And we're miffed why we were caught blind-sided, when learning that his family knew about this beforehand and was in full support. His parents have even given Faith info about where/how she can continue her nursing studies as a military spouse.

I told her that if this relationship is meant to be, let him go into his training and commitments, and you can have a longer engagement and get married after you finish your education.

We don't have anything against the guy or his family. They are generational military family. And the father who raised me was in the military before I was born. I know from my mother's stories, it can be a lonely life for both parties, not to mention when there are children to raise and you're essentially a single parent.

But we're struggling, because we don't want to say something we will regret.
