We squandered it with old school development staff who had no vision or understanding of technology and an unfortunate loyalty to offensive coaches

We fell behind with fundraising (a little at a time) and allowed other programs to poach the state of talent.

Compare all of that to what Clemson did in a very short period of time (10 years).
