Great post and I largely concur...


I just believe the responsibility to motivate the fan base to give those dollars originates with the head coach and development people...not the fans.

I teach at Vanderbilt. We could make the same claim. If Vandy alums want to win a NC, they must give money. But we all know that’ll never happen because there is no evidence that more money would get it done.

VT isn’t Vandy, of course. I just think the program has to give people a reason to believe those dollars won’t be squandered...a vision for how to get there and results on the field (a trajectory of winning and improvement) would help give people the confidence to invest.

I don’t think the downward trajectory on the field that VT has displayed instills much confidence.

We just disagree on what’s a realistic expectation of the fan base. You seem to think the onus is on fans to bring their money to the table and I think the onus is on leadership to give fans a reason to do so.
