Everyone here is so eager for the Big-12 to fall apart. I have never understood that; what benefit to the ACC would that be? Not one school in the current Big-12 will move to the ACC and that includes WVU. That ship has sailed - many times over.

There are too many worthy schools for a P4 set up. Do the math, It does not work out at 64. It does not work out at 80. No one currently in the system is going to be left out even if they deserve it because the P4 would have to have more than 50% of the eligible schools as members or it gets decided in the court system. That would be messy at best, ineffective and highly political.

Perhaps it is jealously by some wishing for the Big-12 to fail or perhaps fear. I am not sure. The Big-12 makes almost twice the money after all considerations than does any member of the ACC. Is that the reason? They do it with 10 schools too, not 14+Notre Dame. Is it assumed that the ACC is on unstable ground so better the Big-12 than the ACC? I do not think the ACC is unstable at all. Its not rich because it has a p***poor media package but it is more or less a geographical whole and has a solid presence in the two major sports. It has woeful leadership but that sort of thing is cyclical.

So why the joy that another conference may fail?

The rub is that the Big-12 is just fine. It is as stable, perhaps more so than the ACC or the Pac-12. It has good cash flow. Good sport representation and rather good leadership. It's only flaws is 70% of its TVs are in Texas and it has no real CCG. That stupid set up was done for beauty points for the playoff committee. Once they add 2 more schools they will be fine and all this simmering enthusiasm for their demise will die.
