The difference is that this particular employee did not have any offers
for other employment so to speak. The two situations are not actually comparable.
The employee tendered his two weeks notice with no employment secured believing his particular skill set would likely land him a better position and the grass would be greener. Once he weighed his available suitors, suddenly his situation changed.
Would your significant other be so quick to welcome you back if you made the same choice? Well?
