In wrestling always redshirt if at all possible. We had the luxury of

having an experienced AA returning at 165 in McFadden. So that helped out a lot. But most coaches will redshirt true freshman even if they don't have a viable option that year. See Penn State planning on redshirt all everything True freshman Teasdale (they tried to pull the shirt and for unknown reasons he is transferring), 125 is a horrible weakness for them, but they are looking to the future.

Most freshman, Lewis included aren't great on bottom when they first get here. That is because they are so talented they were hardly ever on bottom in high school, and when they were they had the athleticism to easily escape. Mitch Moore is a great example of this, he has been forced into the lineup due to his brothers injury. Though I will say it looks like he is improving his bottom game.

With a talent like Lewis you also want to take advantage of the 4 years that they have eligible. Last year I think he would have been borderline AA. This year I think he is a definite AA, and if he gets good seeding (his bracket lines up with guys that his style transitions well against), he has potential to finish high. 165 is a loaded class so he will be hard pressed to win it all, but it could happen.
