In football- a sport where VT has historically placed way more emphasis and devoted way more resources- we cannot, and never will, be able to out-recruit, out-facility, and outspend the perennial top 10 (20?) programs.
In hoops, that gulf is even wider for VT.
In all the wilderness years/decades for our men's basketball program, my hope was that VT would someday hire a HC with a proven record of success and a system that would enable us to thrive without the need to outrecruit UNC, Duke, or even UVA for 5 star recruits. Buzz has shown us how much better the program could be by hiring a proven head coach- something we had not done since Bill Foster left town. The next step for the program IMHO is to hire a coach of Buzz's caliber but with a more defined and sustainable system. And hopefully one who will go into each season with a goal of having a full complement of scholarship players.
