The terrible D is an anomaly under Bud (one that I think will continue for

another couple of years). But the offense simply isn't producing points against some of the worst P-5 competition in the entire country. Just look at 2018:

FSU: Offense scored 17 points
Duke: Offense scored 31 points. Our best outing of the season by a country mile.
ND: Offense scored 23 points. 7 of those came when the game was out of hand and ND had second team D players in the game.
UNC: Offense scored 22 points against one of the worst D's we faced all season. And the final two possessions were filled with miraculous plays.
GT: Offense scored 28 points against another terrible defense. 7 of these points were scored in garbage time when the game was over.
BC: Offense scored 21 points. VT scored a TD late in the game to make it look close, but the game was never in question.
Pitt: Offense scored 22 points.
Miami: Offense scored 14 points. Likely the best D we faced all season. Zero points in the second half.
UVA: Offense scored 34 points.

The defense was historically bad, no question. But anyone who thinks the offense is markedly "better" (it is better by late Beamer era standards) by looking only at the stat line is fooling themselves into thinking things are on some major upswing. We are in arguably the worst division in the worst conference in college football and we can't consistently score points.
