Men's ACC Indoor Track & Field this weekend.

Expectations for this weekend:
1) I looked at the best performances on the US Track & Field website and used those marks to score the meet. There are a number of caveats:
a) Not all tracks are equal. Some are truly faster than others due to length of the track, tightness in the turns and composition of the running surface.
b) Some athletes may have been concentrating on training rather than competing up to this point. Some might not have competed at all.
c) Some athletes are ranked in multiple events and they might not compete in every event in which they are ranked.
d) Injuries are unknown to the general public.
2) I have the team scores at VT-110, FSU-103,UVa-64, Syr-57, NC State and ND-48, GT-43, UNC-41, Clemson-40 followed by the rest. It really should be a repeat of last year's meet in which FSU beat us by a 111-107 margin; well ahead of everyone else.
3) We will be relying on some key guys:
a) Pete Seufer to score big points in the 3K and 5K (16 projected points).
b) Freshman Jacory Patterson to score big in the 200 and 400 (18).
c) Our new guys, Isaiah Rogers and Tyson Jones in the shot put and weight throw (15).
d) Our pole vaulters led by Deakin Volz (16).
e) Our 800 and mile runners, led by Bashir Mosavel-lo and Diego Zarate (24).
4) FSU is expected to yield 54 of their 103 points in just 2 events, the 60 and 200. They have 6 good sprinters who run in both races. Is Cole Beck fast? FSU has 5 guys faster in the 60 (two of them are freshmen) an 6 guys faster in the 200. We have to hope that NC State's top seed can win the 60 and Jacory Patterson places as expected in the 200 or FSU's point totals will increase).
5) There is only one event Thursday night which is the Distance Medley Relay. We have the second best time but we should have a good chance to win.
6) The meet is in Blacksburg with the finals in most events on Saturday. If you live nearby, it can be a great way to spend the afternoon; 19 finals beginning at noon and ending at 4pm.
7) We are missing 53 points from last year, mostly through the graduation of a talented senior class. It is quite a testament to our coaches that we may be matching last year's score.
8) Go Hokies!
