ACC Track & Field
The men have had some good performances today. We went 2-4 in the Heptathlon for (yesterday I was thinking 3-5) and Isaiah Rogers grabbed second in the Weight Throw instead of the projected third. FSU also did three spots better in the Heptathlon but slipped a spot in the Weight Throw. Compared to yesterday's projection, FSU has gained 2 points while we have gained 5.
I'm thinking this meet will come down to the last event, the 4 x 400 meter relay. FSU is projected to finish third and VT fifth. If Jacory Patterson isn't healthy, this event probably doesn't matter. He didn't run the 400 leg of the Distance Medley Relay even though he has our best time by over 2 seconds. If he is not available for the 4 x 400, we will be lucky to score in the event. We only have 3 guys who have run a 400 this winter. Unfortunately, our second best guy from last year did not return this year even though he would have been a junior. He would have been our second best this year and made us one of the favorites in the 4 x 400.
The women are falling just short of expectations while FSU is doing slightly better. I don't see a path to a championship for the women especially since Rachel Pocratsky is not running in the mile. The 800/mile double is tough with the events being only 1.5 hours apart. I thought she might double since she won both at the Outdoor Championships last spring.
The women's pentathlon was a one-sided event. The athlete from Miami won all 5 individual events. This is hard to do since the events are so diverse (shot put, long jump, high jump, 60 hurdles and 800 meters). She currently has the best mark in the country. She also took time out from the event to qualify for the finals in the hurdles. Give credit where credit is due. Luckily she's a senior.
