ACC Tournament

Things to look for regarding VT tomorrow, by weight class, name and seed for VT wrestler. Any last minute changes in lineups by any team could change things:

125 - Prata (3) needs to repeat his regular season major decision against Duke in the first round to gain bonus points. He has little chance against NC State in the semis but needs to avoid giving up bonus points like he did two weeks ago. He will be wrestling for 3rd and needs to repeat his 2-0 win against UNC.
133 - Myers (4) needs to repeat his wins (7-3 and 4-2) against UVa in the first round. If he wins, the second round would be a rematch of his upset against Phillipi of Pitt. A second upset would be very big in the team race. If he loses to Phillipi it is likely that he only finishes 4th.
141 - Moore (2) - has a first round bye and then needs to reverse his SV loss to UNC from the regular season. A loss here would be a blow to our team chances. He will probably finish 2nd or 4th.
149 - Blees (4) - has to repeat his wins (6-3 and 3-2) against UVa in the first round. A win there matches him with the #1 seed in the semis (one of the Finesilvers from Duke) who Blees lost to 3-1. A win there would likely match him with the #2 from UNC; a 2-1 loss for Blees in the regular season.
157 - Laprade (3) - needs bonus points in the first round against UVa (won by fall and 12-5). He would then need to avenge his 7-4 loss against the #2 from Pitt from the regular season. Blees had a 3-1 lead in the third in that match but lost at the end. A win here would give him a chance of reversing a 6-4 loss against NC State in the finals. That could be a death knell for State's chances.
165 - Lewis (1) - needs to repeat his bonus point wins against Duke (18-5) and UVa (10-1 although it was a 6-2 match in Hampton).
174 - McFadden (1) - needs to win as expected. Some bonus points would be nice but can't be expected based on the regular season results.
184 - Zavatsky (1) - needs to match his MD against UNC in the semis and repeat his 2-0 win against Pitt in the finals.
197 - Sleigh (2) - his first match in the semis is crucial since it is against NC State. It was only a 3-2 win two weeks ago. A win would match him against UVa which was a MD loss in Las Vegas but a 7-3 win at Moss.
285 - Miller (3) - needs to match his regular season fall versus Duke in the first round in order to face Pitt in the semis. That match was a 11-7 loss in the regular season and a win here is unlikely. Bonus points may be a possibility in a likely 3/4 match-up against UVa (12-3 and 4-1 wins).

There are 4 weight classes that could really change the team race battle with NC State. We have a good chance of falling short at 141 and 197 but a good chance for exceeding expectations at 133 and 149. If the results run close to the seeding, we should come out on top. Go Hokies!
