Timing and the external environment was everything
Obviously he Dooley AD era was an disaster. Simply, the job kas beyond what Bill was capable to doing. Lots of things were just not done right, (not by intention, but just don't know better). and VT ran the athletic program even before Dooley out of a shoe box so to speak.
Dutch was a great hire, and knew what needed to be done, however the administration was prepared.
Jim Weaver was perfect for the time, He's a detail guy, balance the book and don't over-reach. He ran VT like a linebacker.....GOt it into strong stable program, however, at his end, he was not flexible to changing world of athletics. (and health had something to do with it).
Whit was the perfect hire for the right time. VT wanted fresh, and fresh new university leadership coming iin all worked well. [Post edited by Mercury at 03/18/2019 9:31PM]
