Since consumers can buy new jeans with or without holes in them


I am not sure washing the jeans is what the companies do to make the holes appear. I would think the companies use razors, either by hand or a machine, to make the holes. It allows the companies to have more control over where the holes appear instead of taking a chance the holes could appear in a "less desirable" part of the jeans (i.e. crotch area).
