Sorry, if I am missing something. Lucas Byrd can't be in the portal. He is

a high school senior and currently considered a recruit. He is talented, but we are crowded at 125-141 in the next two classes. Here are our current signee's, commits, and wrestlers at those weights. Please keep in mind we don't even get a full scholarship for each weight class, so coaches have to be creative.

125
Joey Prata (R-Jr next year) - Probably on minimal scholarship
Sam Latona (T-Fr next year) - Probably has a decent scholarship money, is already signed, and a Top 100 recruit (this is the biggest reason we can't take Byrd)
Eddie Ventresca (Next Year Senior in high school, 2020 arrival) - He is another top 100 recruit, I would imagine quite a bit of money.

133
Korbin Myers - (R-Sr) - Probably has quite a bit of scholarship money
Colin Gerardi (R-Fr) - Under the radar recruit with promise, had a good redshirt year. Probably doesn't have any money, though i could be wrong
Sam Hillegas (High School Senior Next year, 2020 arrival) - He is a big time recruit and going to be huge. I would imagine quite a bit of money going his way.

As you can see we are loaded at 125 & 133 with the next two classes. Some would say we are already a bit overloaded at those weights. Though Hillegas could grow into 141, though that probably wouldn't be until his Jr. or Sr. college years, due to Mitch.

We can't afford to have major scholarship money riding the pine when their weight classes are only 1 year apart. That would mean that we would be severely horrible at another weight class or even two due to not enough money to go around.

Hardily any teams have good/great back-ups PSU included, there just isn't enough money to go around. The scholarship money just makes it a different mentality than football. That is why transfers are huge for wrestling, because it allows you to use free money quickly to patch holes for the short term while you look for long term solutions.

With that said if we are looking for a patch at 125, I think it will have to be a senior transfer with 1 year left. Which if the right guy is there, then I am sure the coaches would pursue. But in all our long term potential looks great at 125 and 133. I am more worried about 197-285.
