I was looking at my Sweet 16 game program last night...

and it's startling at how small VT's roster was, compared to almost any other tourney team.

A coach can't control which recruits ultimately sign, and they can't control the talent level of the ones that do sign. But a good coach can develop players, and can involve everyone on the roster. 2 of our last 3 coaches are "short bench" guys by design. I would love for VT to go in a different philosophical direction with this hire. I love how UVA, VCU, and FSU (just to name three tourney teams most of us are familiar with) all regularly play at least 10 guys. That approach can pay dividends, especially if your school is perceived as a place where it's harder to recruit elite players. 10 solid guys can often beat 7 really good guys. Just ask Dook.
